Continually freezes up

My computer continually freezes up, MSFT states that is a
problem with S3G, downlaoded patches, have taken the puter
back to Best Buy where it was purchased, and they state
they've corrected the problem only to bring it home and
have it freeze up gain after about 20 - 30 minutes running
time. Anybody out there have a solution

If you are like me and thousands of other XP users then
this freeze up occurs at random and without any rhyme or
reason. It is in fact a result of a patch that MS issued
about a month to six weeks ago and even after a clean
reinstall of XP and then reapplying all patches it did it
again. I can't isolate which patch caused this and there
are no events in the logs and no debug logs either. It is
entirely random and I guess we'll have to wait for MS to
fix it. If there was even one system pointer it would help
but in this case there is not a single thing to trace. It
just locks up for no reason and only pushing reset will
reboot and start fresh. Have fun.

I have the same issue since two weeks. Is there really no
solution at all ???

I have this problem also, and I think 4 to 6 weeks ago is
a good guess.
Yesterday I've decided to try disabling Norton protection
everytime after boot-up. Let's see if the nuisance shut-
down goes away.
If anybody thinks it's no use, do let me know - thanks.

Hey! I come back to this thread a day after my last post
and found it rolled back to page 28. Kind of hard to keep
track. Anyhow, I just want to give everybody an interim
update. I'll try and give another update in one week's
time on a fresh thread, knowing that this particular old
thread would be so..oo hard to find.
My interim update - ever since I tried disabling Norton
protection after each boot-up, the system hang stopped
occurring. Looks promising.

Now, a little off-topic: if only someone could suggest
how to find old posts like this one, to look up replies
given by so many helpful people here...

Use a newsreader to read newsgroups instead of the web interface.
Outlook Express can read news, although it isn't the nicest. Here is a
