Continual locking up problem.

my computer continually locks up. after about 5 minutes
after logging into XP, the system locks up entirely and I
have to manually shut it down, and then when I bring it
back up, it does it all over again. help, before I throw
the thing into the middle of the interstate.
 
Who cares? there should be laws against people (like me)
being allowed to buy these things, but that doesn't stop
them from selling it. just tell me how to fix it. LOL.
