contents tab missing in classic xp help view

i type "hh windows.chm" from start->run according to official instructions to
view xp help in classic view. but in the window that opens i only get index,
search and favorites tabs and no contents tab. it's funny cos there's this
topic in this help called "Getting Help" in which it says i can browse the
table of contents by clicking contents tab but this tab is simply not there.
it's impossible to conveniently navigate a help file without contents tab
(thats why i hate the"help and support center" with its "categories"), so how
am i supposed to use this classic help file if its pretty useless without
contents tab. is this help behavior by design or perhaps something's wrong
with my os installation/settings?

I'm also running XP using classic view and get the same result when typing
hh windows.chm in start > run so whatever the problem is - it is not
something wrong with your system.

Don't know of a solution.

Some *.chm files have a Contents tab, some do not.

I would assume that windows.chm is usually accessed through Help and
Support.

hh nthelp.chm::/nthelp_use_help.htm does have a Contents tab.

hh ntcmds.chm::/ntcmds.htm does too.

Double click the closed book icon in the Contents pane to expand the topic.
