Content Controls in forms Locking themsleves

I have a form setup with some check boxes and some plain text content
controls along with one or two date selector content controls. I've locked
the document so these are the only thing that can be edited in the document.
For some reason, as you go through the document, some plain text fields will
no longer allow yo to fill them out. I have the document setup as a template
so it forces you to save it as a document. The field that locks out seems to
vary. if you start at the bottom of the document, different fields will lock
out. Any ideas? I'm using Word 2007.

** UPDATE **

If I go through the document and fill out the text content controls and the
date context controls, then use the check boxes, everything works normally.
If I use it from top to bottom, once I start using check boxes, then all the
text content controls can no longer be used.
