Content Advisor Not Working

D

Dan

I use the Content Advisor inside IE to block my teenage
son from viewing adult content internet sites. I recently
discovered that the browser is ignoring the content
advisor and allowing viewing of adult content sites. I
have verified the settings in the advisor - everything
appears normal. I've also downloaded and installed IE 6
SP 1, but the content advisor still doesn't seem to work.

Any ideas?

Hi Dan - Content Advisor Lost Password - Go here:
http://www.pchell.com/support/contentadvisor.shtml and do what it says
and/or see here to disable it completely or toggle it:
http://osiris.978.org/~brianr/nopics-ie/

Here's the basic procedure, but refer to the link above if you need more
detail: Go to Start|Run and then enter "regedit" (without the quotes). and
then navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\
CurrentVersion\Policies\Ratings

Select the "Key" entry in the right-hand pane and
Delete it. Now go to Registry|Exit to close Regedit.

Now you'll be able to disable Content Advisor by opening IE6 and going to
Tools|Internet Options|Content. Click on "Disable". Then click on "OK" when
you're asked for a password - don't enter anything. OK out and CA is
disabled.

Alternatively, see here: http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_abc.htm under
Content Advisor under "C" for info and specialized .vbs scripts to turn it
on and off and to modify specific settings.

My guess is that some version of the above is probably what your kid or his
friends have done. :)

If you wish to restore Content Advisor to its original condition (because of
your boy) you can obtain a Microsoft program (CA-Reset.exe - 89.5K) to do
this here: http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/regs_edits/CA-Reset.exe
(listed on line 283) NOTE: Using CA-Reset will completely delete your
Approved List - everything starts like brand new, so consider this before
you use it.

Thanks for responding Jim! I had seen the replies you
offered below in other threads. I guess I'll try setting
the CA to the original condition. The password works
fine - I haven't forgotten it and CA accepts it. IE
simply acts as if the content advisor isn't even on! I
was thinking of reinstalling IE following the instructions
on the MS website at this link:

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=318378

I guess I'll try that if reinstalling the CA doesn't work.

Thanks again for the help.
