Content Advisor Not Working

I have a strange problem. Despite having set up a
password turned on the content advisor in IE, it simpy
does not give me the pop-up screen prompting for the
sites to be added to the list. Every damn site simply
comes up. It justs doesn;t seem to be doing its job.

The password is recongnized. I do have to type it in
correctly (wrong passwords don't work) to get
the "settings" and see the list of approved sites. There
are currently only a couple of sites I have typed into
the list, but that list seems to have no effect. Whether
the content advisor is turned on or not, the pages come
up. All of this from the administrator account on XP, of
course. The Cont.Advisor was working till two days
back. I downloaded (absent-mindedly) a java applet from
a decent newspaper website and that's the only thing I
can think that could have started the problem. Any
help? Thanks.

Bumping this question up again. I still cannot make the
content advisor work on the Internet explorer.
The "approved sites" list is simply ignored. Registry
shows the encrypted password. Cont.Adv sks for the
password to add sites to the list. But no site is
blocked whether the content advisor is enabled or
disabled.

I resinstalled internet explorer, to see if such a repair
would work (had to edit the registry to change a 0 to 1
to force a "true" reinstall of IE 6.0 from microsoft).
Still no luck.

Newe laptop, 3 weeks old. 2.8, 512. XP home edition.
Three accounts on it, all wih administrator previlege. I
am doin everything from the Owner account (though named
something else now).

Don't know if it matters, but a search for Ratings.pol
did not bring up any files. The web-pages that discuss
the lost Cont.Adv password seem to say that all that do
not apply to XP. I am not sure if I am supposed to find
a Ratings.pol, but anyway it is not there anywhere.
Password does work fine. The sites are not blocked in
any way, that's all.

This is annoying the hell out of me. Please, can some
Guru out there help?
