Contamination

I am recovering from quite a melt down. I normally run Norty Live Update
every morning and I started noticing it taking longer to complete each day.
Finally it became obvious it was unable to install updates. I called Symantec
for technical assistance and after over 10 hours on the phone with them and
their suggestion was to uninstall Norton System Works and reinstall. I then
pursued that course and found I could not uninstall that program. Symantec
tried and they failed also. Then they sent me to MSFT and after two days with
them we stumbled onto the cause of the problem. I use HP printer and scanner
and it seems a MSFT downloaded patch in fact caused the contamination. I had
to do a complete reboot and am hoping some one can tell me the name and
number of the offending download. I'hate to update my WindowsXP again.

Simple answer, don't use Norton. Try NOD32 http://www.eset.com/ I mean if
Symantec can't uninstall their own product then something is wrong. There is
nothing wrong with HP or the MS patches it's what Norton did to it that
screwed it up.

Telephonics issues were with Symantec which Symantec could not fix. MS fixed
their patch so if Telephonics runs the updates he will be fine. Norton
tricked him into thinking it was a MS problem.

I don't disagree that Norton anything sucks, but...

"There is nothing wrong with ... the MS patches..."

You think noone ever suffers problems with MS patches? You think that
there is nothing wrong with MS installing their beta spyware such as
WGAN on millions of unsuspecting users' computers who are also paying
customers?!?
