Contacts Not Working - Corrupt??

B

Belinda

Outlook 07 - The inbox works correctly but when I click on the folder of
contacts the computer freezes and I have to alt, cont, del and reset. Same
happens when I click on notes or calendar.
Is this due to a corrupt file? If so, how do I fix it?
Thanks

Provide some information the rest of us could use, including whether Outlook
ever worked for you and the steps required to reproduce your situation.
There is no information here anyone could use to solve your problem. Have
you tried any of the standard repair solutions we post here daily?

Outlook 2007 was functioning correctly with Mail, Calendar, Contacts, Tasks
etc.
After start-up 28th April, only ‘mail’ was working with no access to other
Outlook functions without lock-up.
When Calendar, Contacts, Tasks etc are used Outlook locks up. After
Cont/Alt/Delete and stopping Outlook, the rest of the computer is working
fine.

Thanks Belinda

By lockup, do you mean a screen freeze with no error messages and nothing in
Event Viewer? If so, I would start by updating your video drivers and
repairing your views by starting Outlook with the /cleanviews switch. Seems
unlikely that this would just start for no reason without some change to
your system or settings.

Hi Russ,
We get a screen freeze with no error messages and nothing in the viewer.
Last night my hubby looked at the video drivers (we're operating on a laptop)
and all seems to be well there. However he did notice that Outlook is trying
to Share with Microsoft Exchange - now we don't want to share, but are unsure
if this is a normal setting, so don't want to fiddle with it.
We did manage to get into contacts and tasks by using the tool bar along the
top. Hubby thought he was being helpful by placing the task bar on the left
of the screen and then whammo - it all froze again. And now when we open
Outlook it just freezes with the mouse only operating along the very bottom
of the screen, so have to cont, alt, del etc.
Am thinking maybe the best thing to do would be to reinstall Outlook. Is
there any easy way to do this? Would we have to delete the Outlook first and
then reinstall or keep Outlook there and reinstall over it. Outlook is the
only program mucking up so don't want to reinstall all of office. Also I'm
concerned that my old emails, contacts, calendar might go missing too. And we
can't back it up as we can't get into it because of the paragraph before this.
Any ideas would be really appreciated.
Thank you so much Russ,
Belinda.

Reinstalling Outlook won't help anything.
If you are not running against Exchange Server, why did you add it as a
transport in your profile? You should start by creating a new Outlook
profile that contains only the correct mail transports and your data file.
Make sure you know the name an location of your Outlook data file so you can
add it to your new profile.
