Good day all

Looking for some help.

Running Windows XP
Outlook 2002 w SP1

A while back my system crashed but I had some how saved my contacts
from outlook.

The folded is under the "Outlook today" Personal folders when I open
the folder list while in outlook.

When I click on the down arrow by the address book in outlook to get a
name to send an email to it is now found and the address book windows
pops up..

I click on the down arrow to "Show names from the" Contacts while in
outlook the contacts folder is not shown as an option. Just the
address book. And in the address book there are no names.... I guess
that's why the "Address book" option window opens.

I tried to add the contacts to be opened but the option to add is
grayed out.

my address book is being obtained from the I:\ drive i.e.
I:\My Documents\Outlook files\Personal Address Book\mailbox.PAB

I did a search for the contacts folded but came up blank. Is it
because the contacts are suppose to also be in the PAB???

In any case I am trying to get the contacts to appear in the drop down
list of places to look for address when writing a new outlook
message...

Any help getting this un messed up would be greatly appreciated...

I'm a little confused by your post, so let me try to clarify: You cannot
find your contacts in the Contacts folder in Personal Folders? Or are they
in the Contacts folder but not showing up in the Address Book?

When I open outlook (default folder to open to is "outlook today".
Next to and to the left there is an Icon. When I click on the icon the
folder list is revealed.

The first folder is the "Outlook today - Personal folders"
then all of the folders that I made and the Outlook system folders
such as Contacts, journal, outbox, calendar, deleted items, tasks.

If I click on the drafts folder all the messages that I have drafted
but not sent or but in the out box are there.

When I click on the CONTACTS folder all the contacts are there...
which is great.

When I click on the address book on the tool bar which says "Type a
contact to find" the address book window pops up.

In the address window pop up there is a option to "Show names from
the" and there is a down arrow that pulls down a drop down list to
chose from.
The options I am given are "personal address - mail box". This is the
only option.

There is also the option to "type name or select from list".

If I am not mistaken I thought I had the option to chose a name from
my contacts.

If I have to write a message to 2 or three contacts would it not be
easier to select the names from the Contact listing from the drop down
list???

I don't know maybe Im getting this mixed up with the Outlook I have at
the office.....

Hope this clarifies the matter....

Thanks for your time and help in this matter

I Guess here is a more understandable version of my problem....

When drafting a new email message in work and I click on the "TO"
field the "Select Names" drop down box appears.

There is an option there called "Show Names From The" and Im given the
option to select where I want the names to come from.. i.e. Personal
Address Book - Mail box".

I am trying to get the "Contacts folder" to appear in this drop down
options box and not the "Personal Address Book - Mail Box".

Hope this explains it better.

Additional info from the office machine versus the home machine (as of
3 May 04)

Morning

Well I went to the office today and looked at the outlook on that
machine there.

The tree look like the following
Outlook Today - [Mail Box - Myname]
- calc
- deleted items
- drafts
- outbox
- sent items
- inbox
- contacts
- etc....
Personal Folders
- from main office
- daily planner
- field notes
- august picks
- etc......

Now the outlook I have at home does not have the

Outlook Today - [Mail Box - Myname]

just the personal folders tree which contains such as follows

Personal Folders
- from main office
- daily planner
- field notes
- august picks
- calc
- contacts
- deleted items
- drafts
- outbox
- sent items
- inbox
- etc.... (not listed in exact order)

How do I get the [Outlook Today - [mail Box - Myname] back???

Is it possible i have the outlook starting up pointing to
the wrong startup folder (if that's how it works???)

Is it possible that is why my contact don't appear in the address
picker list when I do new email????

Looking for all the help I can get please.....

The Contacts folder _is_ Outlook's Address Book.
