Contacts can't be found

Using WinXP and OL 2003.

After working fine for months, when I use the "Find a
contact" in the toolbar, it only works if the contact has
an email address. If not, I get a "Outlook cannot find
the requested Contact" message.

Any idea why and how do I fix. I tried a detect and
repair with no effect.

Local information store or Exchange Server?

Exchange server in cache mode. The Outlook Contact folder
is a public folder but I do have it showing as an Outlook
address book.

Now there are some important details you left out. Repost with all the
relevant information in an Exchange group where they can help you.
