Contacts and Journal Entries

The following came from my Outlook 2003 Help file: ".Outlook items (item: An
item is the basic element that holds information in Outlook (similar to a
file in other programs). Items include e-mail messages, appointments,
contacts, tasks, journal entries, notes, posted items, and documents.), such
as e-mail, or other Microsoft Office documents, such as Microsoft Word or
Microsoft Excel files, you can keep a record of any interaction you want to
remember." I'm having trouble getting a Contact file to track a few Word
documents that have been placed in other folders. Each of the items in those
folders contains - somewhere in their text - the name of the contact. But
when I click on "Activities" in the Contact file, I find a email I've
written (in the "Sent Items" folder) , a reply to that email (in the
"Inbox") , and another item in a folder called "Journal"; nothing listed
for those Word documents I made and placed in sub-folders under "My
Documents".



I could sure use a bit more instruction on how to get those Word documents
into the Activities list. I'd also like to know where I can find a more
lengthy tutorial on how Journal operates and can be used.



On a separate note - about this Microsoft Exchange Server - is this a
subscription service for exchanging files? Where can I get a description of
it please.

Answer to Q1: Contact settings: Journal is set to automatically record all
options. In the "Also record files from..." section, all items are checked
which includes Word. That's why I'm puzzled by a few Word files not
appearing in the Activities list.

Comment on Q2: Check me please... Exchange Server 2003 isn't a service like
AOL; it's software that rums on servers which permits other computers and
devices share info. You buy the software, install it on your server, and let
other devices connect to it provided they are running selected software.
Right?

your default contact folder (not the BCM or one you created)?

2. Correct - it is an enterprise mail and collaboration solution.

How does the program work in regard to identifying a document? If I type a
report that simply makes a one occurrence reference to the Contact in a Word
document - assuming all appropriate flags are checked - that Word document
should automatically appear in the Activities list of the Contact named
should it not?

I have a situation where several, and only several, of my contacts do not get
their incoming mail recorded in the journal. The contacts have email
addresses, and their entries are checked in the journal options contact check
list. All of my other contacts' incoming email gets journaled.

I tried deleting and re-creating these contacts, to no avail.

Any ideas of where to look?
