journal entries not showing on contact journal page.

OL07. this is on individual contact pages sometimes journal page defaults
to view 'all items', sometimes to view "journal" (which is where it used to
always default to ) .

'all items' my list all phone calls (i don't place phone calls through
Outlook, but record journal entries manually which defaults to 'phone call')
and email. or maybe just email and leave out the 'phone calls'.

if i change the view to 'journal' it will show nothing. then, maybe, if i
close the contact, reopen, go to journal page it will show journal entries.
or not. iow, the behavior is erratic.

i have tried closing and restarting outlook.
i don't recall changing any settings that should impact outlook. i did
notice today that the 'standard toolbar' was open, and i don't remember
opening it. i don't use it.

and, no, no one else uses the computer.

any ideas on what is happening and how to correct it?

thanks.

let me give another example of this recent behavior: start outlook> go to
contact page> click on activities> looks in journal > shows all 'phone
calls'. close contact> reopen contact> go through the same routine>this time
nothing shows in journal screen.

i have searched MS kb, and internet, and can find nothing about this
behavior. perhaps i am using the wrong search terms? I am the first person
to see this situation?

since last posting i tried running 'office diagnostics'. it found no issues.

i also ran repair on office from add/remove. this did help either.

it is as if, Outlook cannot search the journal again after the first
attempt.
