Contacts and Addressbook

Max

I just upgraded from Office 2000 to Office XP. In
Outlook my Personal Addressbook was replaced with my
Contact List.

When I go to Contacts, I can see all my old contacts plus
a few I've added in the last day or so. These new
contacts don't make it into the Addressbook in the
Inbox. I would like to solve the contact list problem.
If possible, I'd like my old Outlook 2000 Addressbook
back. Any suggestions?

I don't know what you mean by Personal Addressbook either. Outlook hasn't
used one in 5 years because it was replaced by the Contacts Folder/Outlook
Address Book. Could you explain what you mean by the Personal Addressbook
and how you were using it in your prior installation? Were you actually
using a separate PAB file instead of the Contacts Folder?

Russ,
Thanks for your help. It didn't seem to work.

When I select addressbook on the tool bar it says that it
is bringing up my contact file from personal folders.
But it isn't the right file. When I use the add contact
feature in the addressbook, it puts the new contact in
the personal folders contact file. It is strange that
the file that is being displayed is different from the
one it modifies.

Admittedly I have no idea of the difference between an
Outlook Addressbook and a Personal Addressbook. Are
these different file types, are they stored in different
places? Am I somehow pointing to the wrong one?

I shut up now and listen.

Thanks again for your help.

Go to Tools > E-mail accounts > View or change existing directories or
address books > Outlook Address Book. If it is not listed, back up one step
and add it. If it is, then click on Change. to make sure the Contacts
folder(s) you want to display are listed. You may need to enable the
Contacts Folder as an e-mail address book by R clicking the Folder >
Properties and check the "Show this folder as an E-mail address book" box.
Make sure you restart Outlook after making these changes.

Hello, I hope you don't mind, but I would like you to ask for help. I also have a problem with the contact list. I installed Office 2003 and replaced the outlook.pst file (I was using outlook from office 2000). Everything seemed to be working but when I am sending an email and try to open my contact list I get the message "Can't open addresslist. Contactmap can't be opened: map has been moved or deleted or you don't have the right permissions." I hope I translated everything right from Dutch to Englisch. Do you know how to solve this problem?

The translation is fine. I hope you can translate this back to Dutch:
You just need to reconfigure your Outlook Address Book to display the
Contacts
Folder correctly.
Go to Tools | E-mail accounts, select "View or change existing directories
or address books", and click OK. Select Outlook Address Book, then click
Change to make sure the Contacts folder(s) you want to display are listed.
If any of them aren't listed, you'll need to enable those Contacts folders
as Outlook Address Books by right clicking the folder, selecting Properties,
clicking the Outlook Address Book tab, and checking the "Show this folder as
an E-mail address book" box. Make sure you restart Outlook after making
these changes.
