After selecting forward message,in Vista mail, and selecting contacts the
list comes up backwards alphabetically.
I can't find an option to make this list do a 180.........ABC instead of
ZYX.
Is there one ???

Click on the Name header, and the order used will advance to the
next of the 4 orders available.

Robert.............that did it, thanks for your time and expertise.
Now if I could somehow get the the delete messages in outlook express, that
resides on my desktop's xp system, to work once again I'd feel that the
heavens were correctly aligned.

You're welcome.

Then you'll have to ask someone who's used Outlook Express under
XP. I haven't used it under a version of Windows more recent
that 98SE.
