Contact Info/ Phone Log for Families K -12

C

CJ Melo

I am trying to design a simple to use, attractive database to enter contact
information and keep a phone log for correspondance with parents regarding
their students in a K-12 environment.
I would need to have parent names (first and last), work phone, home phone,
cell phone, student names (first and last), grades, cell phone, and a way to
automatically time and date stamp any phone calls I made, as well as a place
to put expanded notes.

I found a template for sales calls, but it's not quite what I need and I
don't know how to modify it. No one I know has experience with Access (I am
using 2003) so I am on my own.

Any ideas? Database design is new to me, and I am confused by the
definitions of tables and forms. I tried using the wizard, but I don't think
I am doing this right. HELP!

Here's some links to free resources that may give you a start. Crystal's and
Allen's tutorials should give you an overview of how to proceed. The first
thing to get into your thinking is "Normalization" - proper structure and
relationships for your tables. The sales calls template may give you some of
what you want but surely it doesn't incoroporate family relationships, so you
will need to add some tables.

I provide help with Access applications for a very modest fee. I could
create your database for you for a very reasonable fee. If interested,

Ah, and I thought you were starting to behave. These newsgroups are provided
by Microsoft for FREE peer to peer support, not as a venue for a low like
master santos to harrass posters for work. He is not even honest enough to
use his own email address, he has to use Roberta's. I'm sure his wife is
proud of his behaviour.

Why? We have explained this to you many times in the past. If you do
consider it appropriate behaviour, why are you not stalking the users of

John,

Now this is a perfect example of what a thread should be. The OP has a
problem that obviously he/she can not solve alone. Through this thread the
OP now has two options. You provided some very good links for the OP to
begin getting up to speed with Access. The OP can choose this option if
he/she has an inordinate amount of time to spend on the Access learning
curve. If the OP wishes to get a database up and running as soon as
possible, the OP can choose to have me create the database for him/her for
a modest fee.

Steve

Beeeep! Wrong answer. These newsgroups are provided by Microsoft for FREE
peer to peer support. Your pimping does not qualify as FREE support. I guess
you failed Sunday school.

Perhaps you should be posting a link to a website with samples of your
previous work, and/or responses from satisfied customers. I for one would have
no objection to your posts if your advertising consisted of a signature with
such a link (and nothing else).

Do you mean the link to Arno's website?

Please quote what rule on this newsgroup you are talking about.

Advertising/Solicitation:
"These communities were created as a forum for providing peer-to-peer
assistance on Microsoft products and services. We ask that you refrain from
posting advertisements or solicitations that do not pertain directly to the
intended use and purpose of the newsgroup or chat."

http://www.microsoft.com/wn3/locales/help/help_en-us.htm#RulesofConduct

and, just so that you understand the intended use and purpose, keep reading:

"Microsoft created Microsoft public discussions covering many Microsoft
products, technologies, and topics because of the value of finding out what
your peers think and getting information from people who use the same
products and technologies you use. The Microsoft public discussions have been
available to anyone on Usenet for a number of years. Thousands of Microsoft
customers at all levels of expertise post in these groups today, creating the
content, sharing information and contributing ideas. There are currently over
2,000 public discussion groups dedicated to discussing Microsoft products."

The intended use and purpose of newsgroups is to provide help. That's
exactly what I offer!!!

<.........that do not pertain directly to the intended use and purpose of
the newsgroup.........>

My offers of help ALWAYS pertain directly to an Access application.

Why don't you go after the perveyors of watches, handbags, etc? They are
advertising products that have nothing at all to do with Access!!!

Steve

I guess you do not understand the word "refrain". There is nothing in that
statement that makes your abuse of the newsgroup permissable.

Stevie,

The intended use of this forum is not for commercial advertising.
My offers of help ALWAYS pertain directly to an Access application.

Yeah, for a price. What part of free don't you understand? You're making a
conscious choice to post blatant advertisements for your paid services,
without offering any useful help of any kind.

Like the "Tricks & Tips" on Steve's website, "coming soon" for over 3 years.

I'll be interested to review them when they arrive... to see their quality.
