Constant echo in audio

I have been trying to solve a constant echo problem with
all audio output. If you have any obvious suggestions
that you could provide, I would greatly appreciate.

Could be either your mic is feeding output sound back into the system (mute
it out in that case) or you've got a filter on somewhere in another
soundware programme.

If neither, try turning down the hardware acceleration of your soundcard.

Are your soiund drivers updated (including DirectX) ?
