Consistent Idle Lockup ~ Please Help!

Vista Ultimate installed on a Lenovo Thinkpad T60, All has been
working great for months.
However (and you knew it was coming, else why would I post :) - about
a month ago an issue started.

**Only** after I left the machine on, and it has been idle about 30
minutes it locks up.
The screen has gone blank, and hitting a key will bring it back on,
but all I can do is
move the mouse pointer. No keys do anything, no ctrl-alt-delete,
clicking the mouse
has no response, all I can do is move the pointer.
If fact it's so locked up so the clock in the taskbar stops at the
point that it locked up.

I tried turning off UAC, as I had read in another post, but that has
not made any difference.
On 10/10 there were some Microsoft updates installed, but other than
that I have not installed
anything different - this is the only one that looks OS related:
Security Update for Windows Vista (KB933729)
Can have outlook and whatever running, or nothing running; same
situation.

I would really rather not re-install at this point. I am downloading
Knoppix (linux on a disc)
just to confirm it is not a hardware issue, which I do not believe it
is.

Any ideas out there ???
The laptop does not lock up all day, as long as I do not have that 30
minute idle time (maybe it's the boss trying to get me to skip lunch
and meetings :)

TIA,
- Knaf

also just to note, I ran a full checkdisk and a defrag; no change in
the lockup issue.
Have about 10G free on disk. Screen saver is set to blank after 15
min.

Power scheme is set to never power down monitor or computer when on ac
power.

This happens when docked or not, and on wireless or wired.
