Connects to the internet only when other PC is connected

I've been trying to resolve this issue for the last few days with no
success...I bought a new laptop and when I try to connect to cable or
wireless broadband at home it will not connect unless my old laptop is
connected to the internet. Both run Vista Home Premium. The laptop works fine
at the office, connecting to wireless LAN with no problem. I think it is
something to do with the router or possibly something related to Internet
Gateway Device, as that appears on the Network folder. My router at home is a
Thomson ST585 with the latest 6.2 firmware. Any ideas?

appears your old laptop is set to access the ISP instead of your router.
follow the instructions to configure the ISP connection within the router.

access the router by the url (link) and password, if applicable, that came
with it.

Hi, thanks for your reply. I don't think it's related to the old laptop, as
the new laptop connects to the internet fine at home. I think it's to do with
the Internet Gateway as it only connects to the internet when the old one is
connected to internet. Any ideas how to disable Internet Gateway Device?

It sounds like your new laptop is connecting through your old laptop, using
it as a gateway, probably using ICS (Internet Connection Sharing).

Easiest thing to do would be to delete that connection and go through the
wizard to make a new one.
