Hello,

I have a small network at home comprised of 6 computers
and a 7th used for storing shared files (like MP3s,
Movies, etc.). Each computer has 3 Mapped drives to the
7th. Sometimes when turning a PC I get this
error: "This connectino cannot be restored. The number
of connections to this computer has been exceeded."
Please tell me how to fix this. I don,t even now if its
hardware or software setting.

Thanks in advance,

Randy

Thanks,

That makes total sense. The problem was jumping all over.

I was wondering how many connctions Windows 2000 allows since I have a spare
copy and that computer really does'nt get used itself, its just some online
storage.

To clarify, Windows 2000 Pro has a limit of 10. The limit on Windows 2000
Server versions depends on licenses, network bandwidth and server hardware.

Randy;
Windows XP Home has a simultaneous limit of 5 connections.
Windows XP Professional has a simultaneous limit of 10 connections:

If you need more than 10, you need a server like Windows Server 2003.

Back to the future: IIRC, W9x has no limit. And, it supports
passwords for shared files.

Randy: Just for the record, the limitation of 5 (Home) or 10(Pro; 2000) are
INbound connection limits; for practical purposes one can have as many
OUTbound connections as needed regardless of the Windows version.
