Connections between subnets on same LAN

Hi..

I have 2 subnets, subnet A (212.x.x.x) and subnet B (192.x.x.x) connected to
the same switch on the same LAN.

On subnet A I have 2 DC's with DNS, WINS and 20 clients (win2k, XP) running
in a domain.

On subnet B I have some servers and clients running in a workgroup, only
with ip-adress and subnet configured, no gateway, dns or wins (no dc's or
DNS or WINS-servers).

My question are how to make the clients or servers on the subnets to be able
to connect with name or ip-adress (browse resourses on the different
subnet)?

I want to be able to connect from any comp. on subnet A to subnet B and the
other way around (preferably by DNS-name).

How can I set up the network to make that work?

I've tried to use adresses from both subnets on one server, but then you can
only connect from that comp. to the other subnet, and only by ip.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Best regards,

Alex

Browsing Network Neighborhood requires NetBIOS, which doesn't route.
A WINS on the second network replicating the first would do the trick.
I want to be able to connect from any comp. on subnet A to subnet B and the

Can you resolve the name correctly? Can you ping by name? Are all
the names in your DNS and all workstations pointing to the same DNS?
Then you can connect, but you still can't browse network neighborhood.
If you can ping the IP, you can connect to the system by IP, as in

NET USE X: \\192.16.1.10\Sharename
How can I set up the network to make that work?

As above.
I've tried to use adresses from both subnets on one server, but then you can
only connect from that comp. to the other subnet, and only by ip.

If you're routing, you can't do that. Of course, you could eliminate
your subnetting and use the same network.

Buy a router and install it between the two subnets. Then you need to configure the gateway address on all machines to point to the IP address of the router that corresponds to their side. (You're going to have two ip addresses on the router - one for each subnet

Another option would be to configure a Windows 2000 Server to act as the router by using Routing and Remote Access Services. Obviously, there are more detailed steps to do this, but I pointed you in the right direction.

You could use the switch if it is configurable to handle VLANs. You'll
still need name resolution to resolve names across subnets.
