Connection tray won't close

Hi,

I am regularly experiencing a problem when disconnecting from the internet.
Selecting right mouse and disconnect on the connection tray icon has no
effect and then when shutting windows down I receive an error saying the
connection tray won't close. Then XP hangs on the "saving settings" screen
and only a hard boot will recover it. It happens probably 1 in 3 connections.
Any ideas please?

What is the virus/malware status of the computer? Be sure it is clean:

I am having a very simular problem. I don't know if it's my modem or what,
but my computer does not disconnect when I close my internet connection.
This has happened in the past once in a while, but now happens every time,
since installing IE7 beta 2. I searched the internet for a driver update for
my modem and couldn't find one for PCTEL Platinum V.90 Modem. Does any one
know how to fix this?
