Connection problems with Microsoft Outlook

We recently bought a new computer with Vista.
We can connect to our ISP OK and opening up Internet Explorer is fine
However when we open Outlook we can't seem to get it to automatically
send/receive.
It asks for our network password each time and even though we check the box
to save the password it is unchecked next time we try
Very annoying - can anyone help some novices - simple steps please

Which version of Outlook? Go to Outlook's Help>About and see the
version. If you have Outlook 2002 (MS Office XP), then this is a known
issue that will not be resolved. See MVP Diane Poremsky's information here:
