xphome,sp2.

I have setup this system using the LAN connection for my BB connection. The
owner of this new system does not have BB. I have installed the modem and XP
auto-installed the drivers. The device shows up in device manager and
returns the appropriate strings on 'query modem'

I have disabled the LAN connection but on attempting to set up a dial up
account the only option available is 'connect using a broadband connection
that is always on' the 'connect using a dial-up modem' facility is greyed
out

Any help?

puzzled indeed

ok, found it. SP2 had disabled a network connection service. Just what I
needed on a busy day!

The system recognizes the previous broadband connection.
You must delete that connection, reboot, then set up your
dial up account. ( I had the same issue with AOL version
9 and had to delete the broadband connection, the bug in
it's program which I also informed AOL about as I was
beta tester for their programs, and once this procedure
was completed, it allowed me to create a dial up
account).
