Connecting with Direct Cable with WinXP

I need to synchronize my laptop and desktop computers, and I'm using a
parallel cable between the two computers, both of which are running
WindowsXP.

I have configured the Host and the Guest accounts, and I can make the
connection. The Network Connections windows on both machines show them as
connected.

But I can't figure out how to read the Host machine's directory from the
Guest machine's Explorer.
When I open Explorer on the Guest machine, I see nothing that could be the
Host machine. When I click on MapNetwork Drive, to assign a letter, nothing
I type in seems to work.

I can't find the Host machine in my Network Neighborhood listings, either.

Both machines are stand-alone, although the laptop is set up to be able to
connect to the network at the office.

Thank you,
Margaret Bartley

I think so, but maybe not. It told me I could not (or should not, I can't
remember) share the c:\drive, but
I selected the folder I wanted to share, and clicked "Share this folder on
the network".

I tried it both for the selected folder, and also for the parent folder.
