Connecting two switches with auto-uplinks?

C

Chris C.

Hello,

I have a question thats been confusing me lately:

I currently have a Netgear switch where all the ports have the
auto-uplink feature.

My first question: Can I connect another Netgear switch where all the
ports have auto-uplink feature to my current switch? Will there be a
conflict where both switches automatically switch their ports to
"cross-over" and "straight-through" at the same time? (so that both
switches can't communicate?)

My other scenario (totally separate from the first): If I purchase
another swich without auto-uplink, can I just connect any port on my
Netgear auto-uplink switch to a regular port on my new
"non-auto-uplink" switch?

Thanks in advance!!

For the first scenario ... The two switches should negotiate a connection
without any problems. The key word is "should".

For the second scenario ... Yep, that's the whole idea of auto-uplink. Any
port on the second switch can be connected to any port on the first and a
connection will be made.

I have successfully connected auto uplink switches together without any
troubles. Different brand names and with crossover and straight thru cables.
