connecting to the internet

The computer refuses to release the ip address that is
programmed into windowsxp, is there any way I can force
the release.
I would appreciate any help, thank you in advance.

Hi,

If it is dynamically assigned, type "ipconfig /release" (no quotes) at
the command line.
