I need to connect to a network server, but do not seem to have the option. Is
there a work-around or do I need to return the computer and get an XP model?

Neither Home Basic nor Home Premium can connect to a domain, just like
XP Home and MCE* could not. You need either Vista Business or Ultimate
or, if you want to go back to XP, XP Pro.

*Unless joined to the domain during installation, not normally done
since MCE isn't really right for business use anyway.

Your post is not clear. The heading refers to "domain" but in the body you
state. "I need to connect to a network server...". Home Basic cannot "join"
or become a member of a domain but can connect to a network server ala
Internet.

Home Premium is XP pro's replacement and can join a domain.

The above post is NOT correct. Home Premium corresponds to the Tablet and
Media Center editions of XP, and *cannot* join a domain. Domain-join is an
option for Business, Enterprise, and Ultimate.
