Connecting Personal Address Book to new emails

I just installed Outlook 2003 with a pre-existing contact file (mailbox.pab).
The Contact file does show all my contacts, but when I create a new e-mail
and type in the recipients name; it does not pull it from the contact file.
I remember there was some setting that has to be done to allow e-mail to
recognize the contacts... what is it? Any thoughts?

Outlook has not used a PAB file for over a decade. Use a supported method
for migrating your data--posted here daily.

And the type in receipient takes addresses from the autocomplete cache and
not any contacts folder
