connecting networks over the internet

my brother and I both have networks at our houses. We
want to access eachother's networks as if they were one.
Is there an easy (and of course cheap/free) way to do
this?? Please help.
We both run winxp pro on all our machines. And both of us
use Netgear routers for our LANs.

On one PC set up a VPN connection and on the other allow
incoming calls and tick the VPN box, set up a user name
and password. then find your curent IP address
(http://www.whatismyipaddress.com/) or somthing
and then use that address in the vpn settings
