Connecting Multiple ESATA Drive

Joe

I have an ASUS P4S533 that I'm using as a server with a 4 port esata PCI
Card connected to 4 external hard drives in an IcyDock enclosure. I am
looking into getting 4 additional hard drives in a second IcyDock enclosure.
I want to get a way to hook up more drive to less cards (a port multiplier).
The MB only has PCI Slots. I'm not even sure I have a slot left. I may be
able to make one available.

Any Ideas?
Thanks in advance

I have a suspicion, that not just any SATA port can drive a port
multiplier box. I hope I'm wrong. Perhaps sending an email to
the vendor of those boxes would be a good idea, to see what they
think works with it. My guess is it might take a SIL3124 or a
SIL3132. The SIL3124 is PCI-X, and SYBA makes a card with that
chip on it. (The suggestion here, is the port driving the
multiplier, should be SATA II. The SIL3124 is SATA II.)

If you were using a SIL3114, that is SATA I, and might not
support the features needed for a port multiplier.
