Connecting directly to another PC on the internet

Hi, Maybe a stupid question I know. I've had a quick look round the net for
this Q but can't find it quickly so thought i would ask here.

Is there anyway My friend can connect directly inot my PC and download files
etc!
I have stuff on my PC that he may need and it would obviously be easier for
him to DL it directly, I do trust him implicitly!!

What is it called and has anyone got a link to a "How To"
