Connecting 2 PC through LAN

Hello friends,
I have 2 PCs one running WXPHOME and the other WXPPRO,
I would like to connect these computers with a RJ45,
Please inform me how should I, I tried it once,
both appear to be dead!

use a crossover cable to connect between the 2 computers and follow the
