connecting 2 HD to 2 different IDE controllers?

Hi All,
I got 2 IDE hard drives, CD and CDR.
Both HD are 7200 rpm.
The old HD is a 40GB (2M of cash), the new HD is 120GB with 8M of
cash.
I read that from performance aspect it is a good idea to put the
operating system on one drive and the paging file on the other (each
HD controlled by a different IDE controller).
Currently I have win XP installed on the 40GB drive.
It is about time to reinstall from scratch (3 years since last
installation) but since I want to do it slow I must have the old
installation running for the other home users.
I thought to set my system like this:
Primary IDE controller: 40GB as master CDR as slave.
Secondary IDE controller: 120GB as master CD as slave.
My questions:
-------------
1. Does it matter (regarding which HD contains the operating system)
which one is connected to the primary controller and which to the
secondary? Meaning will it be possible to boot from both of the HD
regardless of their IDE controllers?
2. Should both HD be set as masters and CD/CDR set as slaves? Does it
matter for performance or boot ability?
3. Is it a good idea to install another XP (when the installation is
done I plan to remove the old XP) on the 120GB HD and put the paging
file on the 40GB although the 120GB got 8MB of cash? Should I do it
the other way around?
4. Any recommendation regarding partitioning (should the paging file
have its own partition)? Should the paging file be set to a constant
value?
5. Will I automatically get a dual boot when installing the second XP
should I install a third party software for that and if so any
recommendations?
Thanks,
Viktor

Everyone has a different idea as to how to set up their hard drives/cd
drives. The way you suggest will work just fine. Leave the 40 on the primary
and the 120 on secondary, then just install a new copy of XP to the 120 and
it will automatically set up for dual boot......
