I have a problem that occurred suddenly with my ISP. My laptop is connected
through a cable modem and I haven't had a problem before. I am showing that
I am connected to my ISP, but when I try to start IExplorer or any other
service, ie Yahoo IM, MSN IM, etc, I can't get a connection. When I check
the networking traffic, I see that there is nothing sent or recieved. Does
anyone have an idea what I can do? I have already run a virus scan and came
up clean. Thanks in advance.

Shut down computer and modem. Leave the modem down for a minute, then
apply power. When the lights stabilize, start up the computer. This
might bring the network up.

If this is a new connection, and a new cable modem, has the modem been
provisioned (i.e., authorized) by the ISP? You should call customer
service anyway since they can "see" what is going on with the
connection. It could be their problem...or yours if the bill has not
been paid.

Otherwise, Google for the application winsockxpfix.exe to repair the
TCP/IP stack. A corrupted stack can cause this same problem.
