Confused about client machines

Hello, I am new to VB .NET and am wondering how my clients would run my apps if created in VS2005... would they need to go out and downwload the .net framework 2.0 before they can use it? or would it already be installed in some circumstances? How often will users be able to use the software out of the box?

Thanks for any idea here.
