Confused ..... A little help please ..... TIA

First, let me give you a description of my system setup. I'm running
an ASUS P4P800SE motherboard with a 2.80 GHz Pentium 4 processor. I
have installed 1 Gig of Ram, a Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 audio card and
an ATI 9600XT All-In-Wonder video card. The operating system is
Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition, Version 2002, Service Pack 2. I
seem to always have major problems whenever I try to upgrade my ATI
software. I either have no sound, or the TV doesn't work, or FM
doesn't work or just something aggravating. Usually I have to
uninstall everything pertaining to ATI as well as go through the
registry removing anything ATI also. Then do a complete install from
scratch. Right now I am currently running ATI's Catalyst Control
Center version 6.8 and their 9.15 Multimedia Center. It took about a
day and a half to get everything to work. Now, however, I missing a
few TV stations that I had before I upgraded. When I upgraded to
Catalyst 6.2 and MMC 9.08, under Device Manager - sound, video and
game controllers there were a bunch of ATI WDM drivers. When I
installed Catalyst 6.8 and MMC 9.15 all those drivers were gone and
ATI T200 Unified AVStream Driver was there. Once again, no sound. I
re-installed the Audio card drivers and the sound is back. I suppose
what I want to know is does everybody have these problems? Or is it
just me? And What about the missing channels? Should I go back to the
older software versions or what? Thanks for any assistance anyone may
be able to give.

I have essentially the same system except for I run XP Pro, which doesn't
mean anything, and the non XT version of the 9600 AIW.

This is the preferred method anytime you update ATI s/w. I do hope you're
using the ATI s/w uninstall utility available from the website.

Congratulations! The ATI T200 now runs sound through the bus and not through
the sound card so there's no need for all the WDM drivers.

Not sure about the missing channels as I feed directly from my sat receiver
via S-video. I always go by the old adage, "If it ain't broke, don't fix
it." I don't use the Catalyst s/w at all as it adds nothing of value to me.
I don't need the latest drivers either, as I'm not a gamer. I only upgraded
to MMC 9.15 because I wanted to use the Line In on my SB Live for other
purposes. Otherwise, I'd still be using 9.08 which was exceedingly stable on
my system. I had to jump through all the hoops that you're doing now and
vowed I'd never upgrade drivers or MMC again as long as I had this system.
I'm now contemplating a new system, which is why I'm hanging around here
now.

Good luck!

Thanks for the quick response, and yes, I do use ATI's uninstaller,
but I, sometimes still have to go through the registry, removing
references to ATI's software when the 2nd try doesn't work either.
Luckily, it's usually been "3rd time's a charm". I've had my ATI
hooked up to the Live! card two ways. Originally it was hooked through
an internal cable from the ATI card to the AUX_IN port on the Live!
card itself. I only hooked up the external line in cable from card to
card when I first started having sound trouble due to upgrades. I
don't know, maybe the difference between the XT and the regular is the
port for the audio out on the card. As you said "Congratulations! The
ATI T200 now runs sound through the bus and not through the sound card
so there's no need for all the WDM drivers." , so I've got the line in
cable unplugged and everything seems to be working fine, sound wise
that is. Thanks again.
