Does anyone know how to make Windows Explorer display a
confirmation prompt before moving files or directories. We
constantly have users moving directories into other
directories without even knowing they did it because there
is no confirmation requested for the move.

Thanks,

Ken

Not that I know of.
IMO - Either lock the users out of the folders or teach them the correct way
to use a mouse and windows explorer. Keep showing them, until they learn
correctly. If they use the computer all day for their job then they should
know how to use a mouse and windows explorer. If they can't learn, hire
someone who can learn. Sounds harsh, but employees need to learn the how to
use the tools correctly that are needed for them to do their jobs.

Teach them to right-click and drag and then always choose "Move".

Try to train them to move/copy by always using a *right* button drag.
And make the movement of the mouse less sensitive to thinking a drag has
started when left clicking and selecting. By default it thinks a drag
of only 2 pixels is intended. You can change that with TweakUI on its
Mouse page - put the value of the Drag window up to say 25 or 30 -
approaching the size of an icon. Or if you want to make a registry
patch for it, you need to change both values at
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\desktop for
DragHeight and DragWidth

Try This Ken... It only works in Win 2000 ... haven't found it for XP yet.
Modify the Registry..

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced]
"Start_EnableDragDrop"=dword:00000000

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
"NoChangeStartMenu"=dword:00000001
