Configuring XP for Dos programs

Michael

I need to increase the number of file handles a Dos
application can open at any one time. In the past adding
a line "Files=99" in config.sys would set the max number
of file handles to 99 for any Dos application. Either XP
doesn't pick up Config.sys files, or ignores
the "Files=99" entry and uses default of 40.
Any idea on how to increase the number?

TIA

Hi

Try the config.nt file instead - Start>Run - then type in "config.nt" - without the quotes. The file is in the %systemroot%\system32 folder.
