Configuring the hard drive

I'm reconfiguring my husband's hard drive and we're starting from scratch, i.e. reformatting the drive and installing XP anew. I'm using an old ME startup disk to gain access to the FDISK and FORMAT commands and while this seems to work ok, I'm sure that's there is a much more updated way to prep a hard drive for a complete reinstall of the OS. What do the pros use now? PartitionMagic, or some other 3rd party software? Does Microsoft not offer any kind of setup CD that partitions and formats?

Windows XP setup does it all. To do a clean install boot the Windows XP
install CD-Rom. When you get to the point, delete the existing NTFS and or
other partitions found. After you delete the partition(s) abort the install,
then again restart the pc booting the CD-Rom to avoid unexpected drive
letter assignments with your new install.

Be sure to apply SP2 or at least these to your new install before connecting
to any network.
