Configuring Outlook for both Exchange and POP3

Hi,

Is there a way to configure Outlook to automatically use Exchange to deliver
Exchange tasks, such Task Assignment or sending/responding to meeting
requests? I have both POP3 and exchange accounts, and Outlook seems to get
confused as to which one to use when.

FYI, we have a small, 5 user network, consisting of a Windows 2003 domain,
Exchange 2003 and XP clients. All clients are running office 2003 Pro. We
use Exchange for internal use and the POP3 accounts for outside
communications.

Thanks,

Do you have Exchange configured as the SMTP server so that all mail goes out
through Exchange? DO you select the correct account with the Accounts
button when you send? Do you have Exchange configured as the default
account?

Hi Brian,

Thanks for your reply.

To answer your questions:

1- No, Exchange is not configured as an SMTP server with connection to the
Internet.

2- The only combination of outgoing account and destination address that
works properly is if I use Exchange and the local domain email address. All
other combinations lead to del. errors, improper delivery or non-delivery of
the message.

3- Exchange is not configured as the default account, as the bulk of our
work is done with external sources.

Brian, as I mentioned above, there's a way to get Exchange messages out. But
people find it very annoying to have to go and choose Exchange as the
outging account, before clicking on the "Send" button, even on replies.

I was hoping that for Exchange tasks, there would be a way to automatically
route the message thru exchange, to avoid the errors, explanations and the
headache.

Thanks,

There may be, but since this group doesn't deal with Exchange, you may not
get an answer here. Asking in the Exchange group may be more fruitful.
