Configure Internet Connection Firewall

J

Jos

I have a laptop with LAN-card a Modem inside and a GPRS PCMCIA card.

I would like to use Internet Connection Firewall on this computer:
1) when the computer will connect through the modem
2) when the computer will connect through the GPRS connection
3) when the computer will connect througt the LAN-card when connected at a
home-network (ADSL/Cable/????)

It should not be used or disabled when:
A) The Cisco VPN client connect to the office network by one of the 3
connections
B) the LAN-card is not connected at the office network.

Who can help me with the right settings for the Microsoft ICF?

Thanks in advance

Navigate to Network Connections. ( My Computer>My Network
Places>View Network Connections.) Within this Folder you
can right click any connection you want to enable your
firewall on, whether modem or LAN.

To enable; right click connection>properties> Advanced
Tab. Check box under internet connection firewall. When
you dont need it you can either "uncheck the box" or just
set-up your firewall to allow access to the desired ports
when you are using your VPN. (To do this select the
settings button in the advanced tab.)

Hope I helped;

If you can wait just a little bit longer, you can define under Service
Pack 2 for XP and its firewall:

.. Exceptions that would reflect which network subnet address the ICF
was to apply to;

.. Netsh.exe is expanded. It was always essentially a command line
tool, but little appreciated is the richness of its scripting
abilities. With the SP2 control of ICF through Netsh.exe, you could
easily script the result you want.

.. ICF was formally added as an object for Group Policy. You can
always add your own GP0 through an .INF or pushed registry changes.

I guess I am saying that right know ICF is essentially a light-switch;
and under Service Pack 2 it is a completely controllable service.

Best,
