Configuration Error??

I have Windows XP Home and when I turn the computer on I get a pop-up
that reads Windows has detected a configuration error, turn computer
off. Code purple. Does anyone know what this means and why it just all
of a sudden started it. And how to fix it? Any and all help is greatly
appreciated.

Sounds like a virus or spyware to me.
