trying to use an old version of quicken, get the
following message in setup.
6. Message "Your CONFIG.SYS file needs updating.
Quicken needs at least
Files=50 and Buffers=10. You have Files=xx and
Buffers=yy".
From DOS or a DOS Session, make a copy of your
CONFIG.SYS file and name it
CONFIG.Q. Edit your CONFIG.SYS file where you see
Files= and/or Buffers=
so the values are Files=50 and Buffers=10.
Restart your system, start Windows
and start Quicken's Setup again. For more
information on these settings, see your
DOS or Windows manual.

question is, is this a safe process and where is this
file?

Do NOT touch CONFIG.SYS!

The "DOS" equivalents in Win Xp are CONFIG.NT and AUTOEXEC.NT in the
C:\Windows\System32\ Folder.

You can edit these with Notepad.

Your version of Quicken must be very old - dating back to Windows 3.x.

Good Luck!

Probably. As long as quicken followed the programming rules in place at the time.
