My Conexant ac-97 audio driver for my HPzd8000 notebook is dated 2004 and
version 6.14.10.8380. I am having sound problems with all my games, even
when I change the settings to Low in the games. I am wondering if there is
an updated version of the driver somewhere else other than HP that I can
try? The HP site uses this 2004 version.

Thanks!

Try Windows update (windowsupdate.microsoft.com). If there is a later
version *that is WHQL certified* - they will have it.

NO NO NO NO!!!!!

NEVER, EVER get hardware drivers from Microsoft.

Get them from the hardware manufacturer. If there are
no more recent ones than the one you have from HP, go to
the chipset maker's site. Heed any warnings they may have
about using non-computer-specific drivers.

Personally, I would look elsewhere for your problem.

Try uninstalling/removing the sound hardware, rebooting,
let it be re-detected and installed.

Also the sound crads on laptops aren't meant for gaming use, they are just there for basic sound
support.

That is right, but I sure don't understand that. They gave me a 2.8cpu, 1gig
Ram, pci express video, big hdd, and 17" flat screen. So why the heck
wouldn't they go all the way and give me a creative soundblaster?
