Conditional validation?

P

PayeDoc

Hello All

I have a sheet that is essentially just columns of data (except for the
column headings in the first row), and two of the columns are what I would
call 'mutually exclusive': i.e. if a value is entered in a row in either
column, the user must be prevented from entering any value in the same row
of the other column. The two columns already have some basic validation
applied (ranges of permissable numerical values), and this validation would
need to be applied for any values that are entered.

I am sure this can be done, but cannot see how!

Hope someone can help.
Many thanks

I'm learning 2007. How does your "conditional drop-down list" work?
Thanks for your time. Otto

Hello

Many thanks for your reply.

Unfortunately I am unable to open the file at the reference you gave. After
saving it then renaming it (by removing the final 'x' from the suffix), I
just get the message that it is not in a recognizable format.

Could you possibly just let me have a pointer as to how I can get the
validadtion I need.

Thanks again for your help.

The file that Herb gave you is an Excel 2007 file. You obviously have
an earlier version of Excel. Simply take Herb's file to someone you know
who has 2007. Have him open the file and save it in the version you have.
Done. Come back if you cannot do the above or maybe Herb can give you a
file in your version. Otto

You will encounter this more frequently.

Download and install the Compatibility Pack so's you can open 2007 files in
2003.

Just note that 2007 files opened in 2003 will have the columns and rows
limits of 2003.

Hello

Many thanks to all of you who have responded to this.

Herbert: I have downloaded and installed the Compatibility Pack, but I still
can't open the file. Any chance of an excel 2000 version?
Otto: you said to come back if I couldn't open Herb's file. I'm back!

Thanks for your continued help.

Send me an email and I'll send you Herb's file converted to your
version. My email is (e-mail address removed). Remove the "extra"
from this address. HTH Otto
