Conditional Formatting

Liz

I have used conditional formatting many times and never had any problems
until today. I and entering if cell value is equal to "First" shade
background pink, if cell value is equal to "second" shade background green,
and if cell value is equal to "weekend" shade background blue. None of the
conditions work. I am using drop downs to enter the shift so I know it is
entered the same every time. I am using conditional formatting in another
column and it works fine.
Could anyone tell me what to do to get this to work?

Thanks,
Liz

Hi Liz

Try using Formula Is in place of Cell Value is and see if that makes a
difference.
Supposing your cells are in A1:A10, select that range>Conditional
Formatting>use dropdown to select Formula is> =$A1="First">Select format.
Repeat for the other 2 Conditions>OK

Hi,

Although changing to Formula is should work, so should Cell value is.
Select the cells where the format works and click the Format Painter, "paint"
over the cells that aren't working. This is just in case there is some
simple error. For example if you enter "First" rather than First your
conditional formatting will fail. Second problem to look for is spaces - are
there any leading or trailing spaces in the conditional format box or in the
cells, for example _First_ where by _ I mean a space. Next you should check
the cells in the spreadsheet to make sure they really contain what the "look
like" they contain. Select the cell and check the formula bar.

If any of this helps, please click the Yes button.
