Conditional formatting problem

M

Martin C

I have a spreadsheet where conditional formatting has been added so that if
a character is present in column 5 of a row, then the whole row goes grey.
ie row formatting with formula =NOT(ISBLANK($D5)) for column D in row 5 for
example.

On the same row, in column C, I have another formatting requirement so that
the colour of the text in the cell goes either red, amber or green according
to the word present in the cell.

Unfortunately, when the whole row is supposed to go grey as a result of the
D5 formula, it only works for the cells in that row other than the cell in
column C.

Is it possible to get the row formatting to override the individual cell
formatting.

As you can see, I already have 3 condition rules set for column C, so I
cannot use another to set it to grey.

Hope that I have explained the problem sufficiently.

I am using Excel 97.

Thanks for any help.

Martin
