Concerning Operating System Upgrades

This is probably a little early to think about this but I am concerned. When
you install a new operating system, such as Vista, does it have to be
coordinated with updates from the computer manufacturer or does the
installation take care of everything?

Disclaimer: The above is my opinion. I do not guarantee it. Be sure to back
up any files involved and use at your own risk. Batteries not included. Not
for internal use. Don't run with knives.

Usually an upgrade takes care of backwards items, but knowing M$, the
probably will dump what ever gave them problems in the past (see Xbox 360).
My best advice to you will be to buy Acronis True image and external USB
disk. Make an image of your PC to the external disk, disconnect it and then
upgrade. i actually do so before every patch, saves me a lot of tears.

Depends on how new your hardware is. The hardware manufacturer may build a
driver for Vista and if it meets the "Designed for Windows" criteria then
the driver may be included on the Windows installation DVD (more info here)

http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/winlogo/default.mspx

Else the hardware manufacturer may build a driver and provide it for
download from their web site. For older hardware the manufacturer may have
no interest in new driver development.

It's probably a bit too early to worry about it...
But if Vista is at all like XP...then most hardware will be supported...
though some drivers may need to be supplied by the manufacturer.

In most of the machines I've built...it was usually the Intel H/W that
needed the mfg's drivers.
