Computer will not 'wake up' after power down

Posted similar once, but crashed computer, have to use library..anyway, new
computer, under Power Mgmt, I can set to turn monitor off, say 10 minutes if
no activity (or any interval), and it does turn off. But, nothing I can do
will bring it back, mouse action, keyboard, etc., nothing. Have to 'hard'
turn off (hold power button down 5-10 seconds) reboot, and things run fine.
Have had Motherboard replaced, had Hard Drive replaced, reinstalled OS 3
times, loaded nothing, etc. But monitor will power down, cannot restart
under any situation. Would not worry, but this just started, which, I
believe, is a symptom of something pending to fail. But, what is left?
Motherboard, Hard Drive, even went out and purchased a wired mouse and
keyboard, thinking possibly my wireless mouse, keyboard was giving problems.
Where do I go from here?

Does the bios have an option for 'waking from sleep mode' which may be
disabled? OTOH, seems I had several systems which I could never get to
awaken--and built several for friends using this board--it was the
ECS-K7S5A, IIRC. s

Tell Power Management to NOT turn off the monitor. Do so yourself with the
button on the front.

To be honest, did not check the BIOS, 2 reasons...(l) remember, computer
worked fine for a month after purchase, and I did not upgrade BIOS or
anything, and the Motherboard has been replaced, I assume, BIOS was also
replaced, attached to Motherboard. Do not think this is problem, but will
check...

Good response...and can do that naturally. My problem is, if this is
something that has just came up, then I presume it is something going on
within the unit which is 'trying to tell me something', i.e., something is
going bad. That is why I have been trying to find out what is going on.
No-one seems to know what to look for, and since both Motherboard and the HD
replaced, I was just searching for ideas what could 'cause' this, not what
actually is causing, but what 'could' cause it, other than the Motherboard or
HD. That would give me a clue where to look...

Have you got a wireless USB mouse and Keyboard? Even if you don't, are
they configured in Device Manager to wake the computer up?

Does the motherboard have the most current BIOS? Check for an update.

Thanks Guy, yes, I have wireless keyboard and mouse, but already thought of
that...I connected a PS2 mouse just to make sure no driver conflict, etc.,
and the PS2 mouse will not wake it up either...that is why I need
suggestions...I have tried all I know how to try, Motherboard, HD, even
changed Video Cards...I am at a loss.....

The Motherboard was replaced a couple of days ago, which should have taken
care of BIOS also...and remember, this is something that 'just started', it
is a new computer and ran fine for one month...then this started...(First,
blue screen stating WinXP had to shut down to keep from harming Computer,
asking me to reboot, which I did, and all worked fine...then System Restore
would not work, even on clean restore points, then this problem. Whatever it
is (if connected, and they may not be) seems to be progressing, or I wou ld
say to heck with it)....

That doesn't mean the BIOS was the latest. Have you checked the version
number and looked to see if there is an updated version available? There
might not be, but don't assume there isn't - check it out.

Have you tested the RAM with at least two memory testing diagnostic
utilities, letting them run for some time? Have you checked the hard drive
with a diagnostic utility from the drive manufacturer's web site?

What software have you installed during this time? Have you eliminated them
as the cause? What hardware and hardware drivers?

bijobe, it is definitely the motherboard problem. I found really good
service on the yellow book, the company is LaptopOnCall Inc, well I
guess you would need to go to www.laptoponcall.com for more
information but this guy is great in service for my old laptop.

This guy has made only 3 postings, and in all of them he mentions the
PC repair services of the same company (and in all of them he advises
to change the motherboard). It looks to me like a shameless promotion.
Perhaps they get a too large stock of the motherboards.
