Do you have it on a network? The network adapter could be causing that
because Windows updates the network connections at the rate of every 12
minutes. If your network adapter is set to "Wake On LAN" then your computer
somes out of standby when Winodws updates the connected computer status.

Yes it is on a local network but have tested this and even disables the
network card.
If I Press the keyboard sleep key it goes into standby ok and stays in
standby till i press a key or activate with mouse, it is not only the standby
mode but also the screensaver, if I activate sleep mode manualy it works.
Screen power off mode does not work either, I use this to switch the monitor
off after 30 minuts and then standby mode after 2 hours.
This may work fine for a while then gives this problem again after a few
days and then may correct itself without intervention after a few days.
No Viruses found on system either.
Thanks for answering

Do you know how to get into the BIOS settings for your motherboard?
You may have to adjust the Power Management settings there, or the IRQ
Detect Activity settings. Your manufacturers website is the best (safest)
place to get instructions for the BIOS.

Once again thanks for the try but its not that easy I have been though most
of what the average person would say, Here is somthing to think about and may
give a beter idea of the problem. This is the secong computer that this user
has had that gves this problem and with a diferent monitor as well, Diferent
mother board make and diferent intel CPU 2.8 now 3.0 the old computer was
reloaded with XP from scratch and worked fine for about a month then did the
same thing, it was given to another user after reloading and has not gone
faulty since, the new computer that was given to the first user is now giving
the same problem, I hope no one tells me its the user name that has a bug,
itmust be somthing quite stupid that somehow corrupts the registry in one way
or another, any way it has me beaten as it will stay faulty for about a week
and then worrk fine for the next few days.
